Playable demo

The playable demo is ready for download. I plan to make the game much bigger. Write me what do you think about it? Would you be interested in playing such a game? I count on your feedback. Every comment shall be appreciated.

Soon I will write some more about the world of “the Dreams of the Forest” but now let me tell you about the game.

The main character is Myosotis, better known as the Trader of Stories. She had lost her memory and now is traveling the world, gathering stories in search for her past.

The main character of the game - Myosotis

Her animation (as well as all other animation in the game) was done in traditional matter. Well, almost traditional. The paper and a pencil was exchange for a tablet and a pen, but beside that it is still frame by frame animation.

The frames building the “walking” and “playing the flute” animations

Beside her the demo is also habited by a Wiseman. He’s pretty strange but you would be too when your only occupation would be talking to lizards (especially if you can hear them talking back).

the Wiseman - from sketch to final drawing

There is also Zephyr, Myosotis trusted companion. The fact that he’s an animal with a intelligence of a sheep says much about her ability to establish grown-up relationships.

The action of the demo is set in the Great Steppe. The land of grass and a mystery behind it. The location itself was constructed from several layers moving independent when character is moving from one side of the screen to another. It was hand-drawn by pencil and colored on computer with the use of a tablet.

And last but (hopefully) not least – the cutscenes. They compose of a series of handrawn illustrations sometimes in comicbook style.

That’s all for now. I hope you will enjoy the short demo. If you have ANY comments please write them to me.

  1. Przeszedłem demo xD Super, chcę więcej. Bardzo fajny klimat, przypomina stare dobre przygódówki (na plus!). Czekam na wersję much bigger ;)

  2. I find your Demo rather impressive. The backgrounds are very pretty, and they could probably even compete with commercial games.
Her walking animation is fairly good either. The only thing you could possibly improve is, so that her shoulders and arms move while she is walking. Otherwise it all appears a bit stiff.
The text of the cutscenes disappears very fast, I could hardly look at your pictures after reading (which is a shame because they are very good!).

Furthermore the story seems to have potential. Sounds like an interesting journey through Myos past is beginning. The Dialogs are okay. Her remarks are funny but please - don't exaggerate it with humour. Too much would be too much.

Perhaps a higher screen resolution would be helpful. At the moment there are black bars around all four sides of the background. But I don't know whether it is possible with the wintermute-engine.

It's very nice of you to show the different steps during the creation of your artworks. I always find it interesting to look over the shoulders of an artist.

To put it in a nutshell: I would look forward to a continuation. I have bookmarked your page. Good luck!

  3. You are extremely talented. This game really shows off your skills as a traditional 2D animator and background artist - I am very much inspired by the work here.

Those cut-scene watercolours are really breathtaking. I want to line them up as a series and frame them on my studio wall.

Keep working on this please! The world deserves to see your talents. You are quite an artist with a unique style.

  4. Hi, I played Bell's heart and thought it was amazing. I'm trying to play your demo, but for some reason, there is absolutely no way I can get past the glowing paintings.

  5. HI, I have already written the anwser to your problem in the newest post:

the correct order for the riddle is:
    2 3
    4 1 5
but it is important you also play the flute before solving the puzzle. The paintings show not only the past, the present and the future but also the events that should happened like playing the flute.

  6. Hi Marek, I have played the Bell's Heart.
Really, what a wonderful game. I really like your artwork, but I just LOVE the universe you're creating, it makes me want to go to the world of Myosotis.
    Keep up the great work!

  7. Hi,

I was wondering if you could help me with the first puzzle in the demo game.

I finally figured out what the paintings mean and this is the order that I touch them in:
-Myosotis on the cart with Zephyr
    -Myosotis walking alone
    -Myosotis touching the paintings
    -Myosostis playing the flute
    -Myosostis near the Wiseman

Then, I play the flute and touch the painted hand on the rock, but nothing happens.

I would be super grateful for your help. Please and thank you.

So what should you do is play the flute, then touch the paitings in this order:

      -Myosostis playing the flute
      -Myosotis touching the paintings
      -Myosotis walking alone
      -Myosostis near the Wiseman

  10. I just finished the demo and I have to say I love the game so far. Visually, it's amazing, I love everything about it. The story line's got me hooked, it's fantastic and I can't wait to see what happens next. Also I've notice the last comment on this was a year ago, which makes me really nervous, so if you see this please tell me if you are still working on this series. Thank you!

  14. I like the demo. I got to the part where Neesan is dying Myosostis’s hair. I went through all the dialogue options: Neesan, ancestors, parents, childhood, home, art and Adalbert. I can’t end the conversation to continue. What am I missing?

  15. Never mind. I just noticed the leaf in the bottom left corner. I didn’t realize I had to click on it to see the rest of the conversation options.

    1. I finished the demo. It was great. I noticed that I couldn’t access images 14-16 in the gallery. That’s okay though. Image 13 is interesting where in the 2nd half Myosostis has a little hair on her chin and an earring and almost looks like a man.
